Purple messages on Instagram indicate that the message has been sent in "Vanish Mode". Vanish Mode is a feature on Instagram, introduced in 2020, that allows users to send messages that disappear automatically after they're seen or when the chat is closed.
Here's how messages turn purple via Vanish Mode:
- Swipe up within a chat thread to turn on Vanish Mode. A confirmation will appear, and once you accept, the chat background will turn black, and the messages will be in purple.
- Your messages, reactions, voice messages, photos, and videos will disappear after they've been seen or the chat has been closed.
- If you turn off Vanish Mode by swiping up in the chat again or closing Instagram, the messages which were sent in this mode will disappear. However, if anyone takes a screenshot of your chat while in Vanish Mode, you'll receive a notification.
Please note: To use Vanish Mode on Instagram, ensure your app is updated to the latest version.
