In contrast to human beings, cats don't literally blush as we understand the term. Cats may appear to "blush" or turn pinkish in certain lights, or when their fur is wet or thinning, but this change is not a result of the same physiological process that causes humans to blush.
Cats lack the numerous blood vessels in the skin that humans have, which are responsible for the blushing reaction. Instead, cats express their emotions through body language, including the position of their ears, tail, fur, and body. Increased blood flow under the skin (which causes blushing in humans) is not visible in cats because of their fur and different skin physiology.
However, a pinkish hue in a cat’s face could be a result of the following:
Exposure to sun or heat: Cats may turn pinkish or red after extreme exposure to heat or the sun. This is similar to how human skin reacts and does not correlate to emotional states like blushing in humans.
Inflammation: Inflammation from an allergy, irritation or infection could result in a pink or red color to the skin. This should prompt an immediate visit to the vet for diagnosis and treatment.
Fever or Illness: A fever or certain illnesses can cause a cat's skin to feel warm and appear pink, particularly in areas with lighter or thinner fur.
